Hou Yifan and Ju Wenjun are the winners of Grand Prix in Sharjah
Sharjah-closing-09 Ju Wenjun and Hou Yifan became the winners of the 6th stage of the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix in Sharjah. In the 11th round World Champion Hou Yifan defeated Alina L’Ami to catch her compatriot Ju Wenjun, who saved an important half a point in the game against Tatiana Kosintseva. The fight for the bronze medal lasted till the end of the round and as a result four players Batchimeg Tuvshintugs, Harika Dronavalli, Zhao Xue and Anna Ushenina shared the third place. Batchimeg Tuvshintugs needed a draw to keep the third place in the tournament but lost to Harika Dronavalli. According to tie-break results, it was Harika who won the bronze medal.

After 8 rounds Hou Yifan became the winner of the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix Series 2013-2014 and gained the right to play in a ten-game World Championship match in the third quarter of 2015. She showed better result than her main rival Humpy Koneru, who finished on the second place. Anna Muzychuk took the third place. The Classic Jewelry House Lobortas has also awarded the winner of Grand Prix Series Hou Yifan with the special cup. The trophy consists of precious elements and stones of varying size, including silver, gold and diamonds.

Round 10: leaders keep their positions
Sharjah-round10-22 After the tenth round of the Women’s Grand Prix in Sharjah Ju Wenjun keeps leading. She drew with Humpy Koneru as well as Hou Yifan did against Batchimeg Tuvshintugs, so the winner of the tournament will be determined in the last round. Batchimeg Tuvshintugs is on the third place one point behind of Hou Yifan. Anna Ushenina split a point with Zhao Xue and keeps chances for the bronze medal as she placed fourth before the last round. Zhu Chen and Harika Dronavalli defeated Tatiana Kosintseva and Elina Danielian respectively. Alina L’Ami made a draw with Nafisa Muminova.

In the last round Ju Wenjun plays with Black against Tatiana Kosintseva, while Hou Yifan has white pieces against Alina L’Ami. The 11th round will start at 1 pm local time on 6th of September. The closing ceremony will take place at the Cultural and Chess Club of Sharjah at 7.30 pm.

Round 9: Hou Yifan wins Grand Prix Series, Ju Wenjun takes lead
 MG 1381 After the end of 9th rounds it it became official - Hou Yifan has won the FIDE Women Grand Prix Series 2013-2014! Humpy Koneru was the first one to finish her game against Zhu Chen, so she missed even theoretical chance to fight for the first place in Grand Prix Series.
At the same time the intrigue still revolves around the last two rounds of the 6th stage of Grand Prix in Sharjah.  Ju Wenjun defeated Harika Dronavalli and took the sole lead half a point ahead of Hou Yifan, who drew with Elina Danielian. During the press conference Hou Yifan promised to try her best in the final rounds. World Champion will keep on fighting for the victory in the tournament, despite the fact that her main goal to win the WGP Series has been achieved. Batchimeg Tuvshintugs split a point with Nafisa Muminova and keeps the third place in the tournament one point behind of Hou Yifan. Anna Ushenina, who defeated Tatiana Kosintseva, is on the fourth place half a point behind of Mongolian player. Zhao Xue outplayed Alina L’Ami and shares the fifth place together with Elina Danielian.

Round 8: same leaders at the top
SharjahGP-round8-23 The central game of the eighth round between Ju Wenjun and Hou Yifan finished in a draw and both leaders secured their places at the top with 6, 5 points.  Batchimeg Tuvshintugs outplayed Alina L’Ami and keeps the third place after eight rounds one point behind the leaders. Elina Danielian defeated Nafisa Muminova and shares the fourth place with Anna Ushenina and Harika Dronavalli. Other games finished in a draw but Zhao Xue had the highest chances to grab the full point in the game against Tatiana Kosintseva. Hou Yifan and Humpy Koneru keep 3 points distance and Hou Yifan needs only one draw to win the first place in the FIDE Women Grand Prix Series 2013-2014.
Tomorrow is free day and the ninth round will start at 3 pm on 4th of September.

Round 7: Synchronized swimming of Ju Wenjun and Hou Yifan
SharjahGP-round7-13 Ju Wenjun and Hou Yifan continue to move synchronously over the last rounds as both players won today again. While Ju Wenjun caught her opponent Nafisa Muminova in the opening and won relatively quickly, Hou Yifan outplayed Zhu Chen only in the deep ending after 5 hours of play. After two losses in a row Humpy Koneru defeated Tatiana Kosintseva but it didn’t help her to shorten the distance with the World Champion so far. Batchimeg Tuvshintugs had good chances for victory against Zhao Xue but their game finished in a draw as well as other more quiet games L’Ami-Danielian and Dronavalli-Ushenina. After 7 rounds Ju Wenjun and Hou Yifan share the lead with 6 (!) points. Batchimeg Tuvshintugs is on the sole third place 1, 5 points behind the leaders. Anna Ushenina and Harika Dronavalli share the fourth place with 4 points.
